Warwickshire V Buckinghamshire

Going into the final but one game versus Buckinghamshire the County needed to gain a fairly decent win to allay all fears of the dreaded drop into Division two.

Linda Farrell

We had a great start to the weekend with the Ladies B taking their match 4-2 with some top wins by Dawn Barbier, Mo Jennings, Wendy Adams with a 180 and a 114 outshot. Lady of the Match was Linda Farrell with a cracking 21.47 with the last leg being completed in 17 darts.

The Mens B also looked well in control taking the first four games via, Mark Kane who battled back from 2-0 down with a 180 and a very nervous double one final leg shot, Trevor Frost 3-0, Mark Sidgwick 3-1 and Dave Bourne 3-1 also with a 180.

Kev Taylor

Martin Brown and Paul Livingstone both seemed to have no luck on the day both losing out 3-0 and 3-2 respectively. Kevin Taylor completed his third Man of the Match performance winning 3-2 coming back from 2 down, Dave Atkins 3-0 never looked in any danger as didn’t Prakash Jiwa 3-1. The remaining three games all went the way of Bucks with Chris Stokes, Steve Giddings and Jamie Atkins all well below par. Scoreline at halfway 11-7 to Warwickshire.

Once again we were hoping the Ladies A could give us a further springboard but alas they were beaten 4-2 with Bucks players performing very well, Viki Franklin looked down and out at 2 down but coming back to square up, but no luck in the final leg also Caroline Pike same story. Helen Rigg was very out of sorts but Trina Gulliver followed with a brilliant 30.06 (for the 2nd month running) with 17,16 and 17 darts which included an all in. No luck for Donna Pinch 0-3 but an excellent final game from Lesley Newcombe and Suzanne Smith pleased all in attendance. Suzanne taking the first two in 27 and 21 darts but Lesley hit back in 20,22 and 21 darts with a final leg 108 outshot on her 150th Appearance for the County.

Mens A have been having a superb run of late with some fine wins and they continued in the same vain going three nil up courtesy of Nigel Heydon 28.90 MOM, Noel Grant 27.83, Tommy Ryan 26.84. Tommy McGlone took the first but could only look on as Mark Day took the Match Award with a 28.28 ave. Colin Laffar and Lee Harris both took their games 3-1 which gave Warks 18 points on the weekend,  Rob Hawker and Scott Mitton also followed up with 3-1 wins. Tony Brown for the second month running went 2-0 up only to lose out with an average of 30.30. Dave Bomber Harris also lost out 3-2 after missing vital doubles. Tommy Aldridge looked out of sorts going 2 down before smashing home a brilliant 121 on the bull for a 12 darter, further winning legs came in 17 and 19 darts. Final game of the weekend saw Mick Gorst comfortably home 3-1 to give Warks that vital win that sets us up nicely in the final fixture away at Durham. A 10-2 win for the Mens A could see them take the title although Durham may prove to be a little stronger than that.

Finally.......

Dennis Roberts
Dennis Roberts
The Warwickshire database is now up and running.

This database has taken 18 months from concept to completion, incorporating 10039 individual games spanning 34 seasons. Featuring 424 current and past Warwickshire players, 4538 opponents, 293 matches and 220,143 single items of data.

None of this would have been possible without the meticulously kept records of the late Dennis Roberts (right) who proudly served as Mens team manager for numerous years, covering an amazing 185 consecutive games. Many thanks to Dennis' family for entrusting Warwickshire with the entire collection of records. We hope this database serves as a fitting tribute to his memory.

Please take time out to visit  http://www.wdo.org.uk/warksdb/index.php

The searches are very comprehensive and can filter down to individual players, seasons, opposing counties, opposing players and much more.
The Opponent search page is a bonus page to utilize the 1000's of opponents we have recorded in the database. It only displays limited information. We do not hold the opposing players statistics, such as, averages, tons, 180's etc. This is primarily a past/present Warwickshire players resource.

All records have been entered by hand, so it is almost inevitable that there will be some problems with the integrity of the data. If you spot an error, or are experiencing problems with the site or have a suggestion that you would like to see included in our next upgrade, please post a message on the Warwickshire Darts Organisation forum (you must register to post). We are unable to respond to individual emails.

A special thank you to Kev Dowling and Neil Pritchard for their invaluable assistance with data scrutiny, error checking and constructive feedback during the development process.
